Extensive Multi-Bathroom Renovation Project | Huby | More Bathrooms

Published: 9 January 2025

Renovation Brief:

The Macaulay’s were recommended to us by friends who had similar works completed. They initially visited our Bathroom Showroom in Harrogate to explore ideas and discuss their requirements.

The Macaulay’s live in a prominent family home in Huby, steeped in history, having been in the family for generations. This extensive multi-room renovation project spanned four rooms: the Family Bathroom, the Main En-Suite, the Downstairs Cloakroom, and the Gatehouse Bathroom. Each space posed unique challenges and opportunities for improvement.

The bathrooms, last refurbished in the 1970s/80s, presented significant issues due to modifications that disrupted the original drainage network. A hallway and a new en-suite had been created, resulting in awkward, elevated steps in the bathrooms to accommodate distant pipe rerouting.

The Macaulay’s sought a solution that eliminated these inconveniences, improved safety, and modernised their spaces while respecting the traditional character of their home.

Bathroom Designs:

Family Bathroom

Following a detailed site visit conducted by Senior Designer Simon and Technical Surveyor Nigel, we discovered that the existing step could be removed by rerouting the drainage back to the original soil pipe, significantly closer than the existing one. This innovative solution allowed us to install a luxurious walk-in shower in front of the bath, inspired by one of our displays in Harrogate.

The design embraced a timeless yet modern aesthetic, incorporating encaustic floor tiles with a traditional theme. This approach ensured the family bathroom harmonised seamlessly with the historical charm of the house while delivering contemporary functionality.

En-suite Bathroom

The en-suite bathroom previously featured a hazardous step in the centre of the room due to pipework rerouting. We addressed this by redesigning the space to include a lobby at the entrance, with the main bathroom area on a single level. Different floor coverings were used to visually distinguish the two sections.

The en-suite featured a walk-in shower extending along a dwarf wall, providing privacy for the vanity unit at the shower’s end. The WC was updated to complement the class take on traditional-meets-modern theme. As with the main bathroom, encaustic tiles were chosen to tie the spaces together while maintaining individuality.

Downstairs Cloakroom

The cloakroom underwent a stylish update with a modern twist. A striking teardrop washbasin was mounted on a quartz worktop, creating an elegant focal point. By utilising a wardrobe for coat storage and situating a back-to-wall WC beneath the window, we cleverly concealed unsightly pipework, enhancing the room's sleek and uncluttered appearance.

Gatehouse Bathroom

Situated in a rented property, the Gatehouse bathroom’s design focused on practicality and efficiency. Condensation issues were addressed by using wall and ceiling panels instead of tiles, alongside an upgraded extractor fan.

A shower-over-bath configuration was implemented, optimising the compact space for tenant use. This particular aspect of the multi-room renovation project was completed within a narrow window while the tenants were on holiday, ensuring minimal disruption.

Installation Process:

Fully project managed by Joe; our installations team’s expertise ensured a seamless project from start to finish. The initial site visit with our experienced technical surveyor played a pivotal role in identifying solutions to longstanding issues. By eliminating unnecessary steps and optimising drainage, we created safer, more functional spaces. Each room’s design was carefully adapted to the needs of its users while maintaining a cohesive theme throughout the property.

Multi-Skilled Fitter Darren brought Simon’s vision to life with expert craftsmanship, ensuring every detail was executed to the highest standard. From rerouting drainage to installing the bespoke features, Darren’s meticulous attention to detail delivered exceptional results.

Customer TrustPilot Review:

"After meeting several suppliers, we decided to select More Bathrooms and the Passmore Group for our bathroom renovation project.

We knew that it was likely to include some tricky plumbing work in our old house and was further complicated by the necessity to complete a bathroom refit in a separate tenanted property within a very tight and specific 2-week window.

We opted for Passmore, although they were more expensive, as they would manage all tradesmen and the whole project from design to completion. The project included 2 house bathrooms (different sites) an en-suite and a downstairs toilet and cloakroom.

The designer was attentive and patient during the design process until we were entirely satisfied, coming up with an innovative solution for us to retain a bath but add a walk-in shower in our long and narrow house bathroom.

Designs were meticulously checked by the project manager and amendments discussed and agreed prior to start. The fitter was not only expert and very hard-working but a dream to have on-site for the best part of 3 months! We couldn’t speak more highly of him.

Although we had to wait a little from the originally suggested start date, it was a rational and agreed delay based on the availability of the skill requirements for the job. 3 months post completion, we are extremely happy with the result as are all our guests who have used our beautifully modern facilities!"

Conclusion:

The Macaulay family’s bathrooms now blend practicality, safety, and elegance, staying true to the home’s historical charm. From the traditional encaustic tiles to the thoughtful layouts, each space reflects the family’s style and the house’s character.

This project showcases our ability to deliver bespoke solutions tailored to individual client needs while honouring the heritage of unique homes.
